The Keys

The top SCUBA diving destination in the United States should be on every diver’s list of “must do” dive trips. From just a short drive south of the world class city of Miami with its rich culture and beautiful beaches down to the famous island of Key West, visitors can truly enjoy “the tropics.”

Clear water, beautiful reefs, abundant marine life, and year-round warm weather make this area a diver’s paradise. In Key Largo visit John Pennekamp Coral Reef State park that helps protect the upper part of the only living coral barrier reef in North America, and the 3rd largest coral barrier reef in the world. Along with the fantastic natural coral reefs an extensive artificial reef program has augmented the wide assortment of natural wrecks ranging from Spanish Treasure Galleons to WWII wrecks.

The area has long been a favorite destination of sportsman for fishing, spearfishing, and taking Spiny Lobster, known affectionately as “bugs.” As you move about the area remember the celebrities, pirates, treasure hunters, presidents, authors, and other characters that have been drawn to this part of Florida. Enjoy the diving, relaxation, sun, water, and nightlife but don’t forget to check out the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society & Historical Museum in Key West, the History of Diving Museum in Tavernier, and the many world famous dive operations that call this tropical paradise home.
